CD LAUNCH – MEMORIES OF KINGSDOWN

Have you ever wondered what it felt like living in Kingsdown in the Thirties?    Or what happened to the village during the War, as it stood facing the Germans across the Channel?   When was mains water and electricity installed here, and how did everyone manage before?   What sort of shops and schools were there?   When were all the new houses built?

All these questions, and many other, are answered in a new CD called Memories of Kingsdown, specially produced for KCG by David Harding.   Some of our oldest residents (two or three no longer with us) offer first-hand reminisces of the days gone by.   It’s nostalgic, yes, but it’s also historic.   And it’s evocative, vivid and fascinating.

Everyone who loves our village is sure to want a copy.  They can be obtained at any of the shops in Upper Street, price £10.   For those living further away who still recall halcyon days by the sea, with the sun shining on France on the horizon, can order a copy by contacting us either by post or e-mail.

Save Coldblow WoodsThe “Save Coldblow Woods Campaign”   to have Coldblow Woods area registered as a village green, has now entered the public consultation phase  and letters of representation are invited from members of the public.Under the Commons Act  the group have to show that a significant number of the residents of the locality (we are using Walmer as the locality) have accessed the land freely, openly and without challenge for a period of 20 years for the pursuit of lawful sports and activities.  This evidence has already been submitted, but the group  now need to show that there is widespread support from the local community.

Kent County Council  would like to hear your views about Coldblow but you must contact them before 10th June 2013.   Details of where and when to write, can be found by following the following link to the KCC notice.

Kingsdown Beach - All Work Completed

12th March 2013  –  Sea wall breached / broken/undermined at Kingsdown

The wall  has been broken/breached/part pulverised about 2 groins on the Deal side of old lifeboat house,  leaving a GAP in the wall..  Already alot of shingle has been sucked away, on the land side of the old wall.  It looks as tho’ the wall has been undermined by the sea, with the beach levels being so low.  Emergency repairs are needed URGENTLY which will take  time and a lot of expense. In the meantime, the other parts of the wall are at risk. Dover District Council have been informed.

CAN WE TRUST THE NATIONAL TRUST?

KCG member David Bucknell has sent a list of searching questions to the National Trust about this new livestock fence at Bockhill Farm, between the Bluebird Cafe and Kingsdown Golf Club.

At least one member has called the fence “a hideous scar on the landscape in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.”  David, who is also a parish councillor, invites other members to contact him as soon as possible with their views in advance of his meeting with the NT’s local management  rasmusbuck@aol.com  or call 01304 373880
