RE – MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL for 2013
In the first instance, and on behalf of KCG I would like to thank you for your subscription during 2012. Your support is greatly valued, and without such commitment KCG wouldn’t exist of course, and I sincerely hope that KCG can count on your continued contribution for 2013, and indeed for the longer term.
2013 Membership Renewal Forms should be delivered to you very soon. To enable 2013 membership cards to be sent out by the 1st of January, it is imperative ALL such subscriptions reach KCG by Friday 21st of December latest.
All subscriptions for 2013 remain at £5 for an ‘individual’, and £8 for a ‘family’. Payable by cash, chq, or Standing Order (SO). If you already pay by SO, then unless there are any specific contact detail ‘changes’ that you wish to make KCG aware of, there isn’t anything else for you to do, as your renewal will go through via your SO, and in turn your new Membership Card will be forwarded to you in the New Year. For those who have opted to pay by cash or chq to date, do please consider paying by SO as it greatly reduces the administration burden on both sides. If you want to change to paying by SO, then you can do so simply by completing the appropriate form enclosed for Single or Family membership and returning it to KCG via the address above to ensure that your records are amended accordingly. KCG will then forward the mandate form onto your Bank on your behalf.
So please spare me a couple of minutes to ‘action’ your renewal as soon as you receive your renewal form through the door. Thank you once again for your continued support.

Rural RoundUp Request – Mary Lord
Some of you may remember a lecture last November about the flora and fauna of our local beach. Before that I had never realised there was so much biodiversity in such a small area. Kingsdown Conservation Group is now suggesting that an illustrated booklet on the local flora and fauna would be a great resource for families in the village and also for those who visit for holidays and weekends. Is there anyone willing to help gather and edit such material with our advice and support? I know from my dog walking that there are plenty of keen birders out there, but if you think you are unable to write anything about your hobby, I commend to you any book on bird watching by Simon Barnes to get you started. It is obvious from the covers of Rural Roundup that there are many photographers who could contribute some really exciting pictures and I am sure that families having fun in the rock pools could also make a contribution with their observations. Perhaps the school could help too. So to get started, we need people who enjoy the natural world to put forward their ideas and to indicate what special interest they may have to get the project moving. This could be the beginning of something really exciting –
Kingsdown’s first coffee table publication! Initially please contact Chairman Philip Evemy with your suggestions on 01304 366 628 or at firstname.lastname@example.org

Join the Addelam History Research Group in the Lower Hall to get started on researching local history. These two workshop sessions, aimed at beginners, will show you how to use the 1841 census and the contemporary tithe survey to match families from Ringwould and Kingsdown to the occupiers of the properties shown on the tithe map. The aim is to publish the results of your work on the East Kent History website (http://eastkenthistory.org.uk) and to display them at an Open Day later this year. It will cost just £3.00 per person to cover copying expenditure, and refreshments will be available on both days.
